Understanding your learning style is essential when committing to learning any new skill
In this blog I’m going to go through the 4 main learning styles and briefly describe how I would recommend utilising my content for each of them.
1. Visual
If you prefer learning through watching, then you have a visual learning style. Online learning can greatly benefit visual learners by offering a variety of visual features such as re-watchable videos, moving graphics, and visual demonstrations. These tools are fantastic for those who learn best through visual means.
Make sure you take the time to watch lessons multiple times, or re-watch any sections required to fully understand each technique before moving on. Pay particular attention to the graphics and diagrams throughout theory segments.
2. Auditory
For people who learn best through listening, high-quality audio and clear verbal instructions are crucial in an online learning environment. That’s one of the main reasons why I talk through each technique before practical demonstration.
I would recommend watching all of the video before moving on to the practical sections, where you can re-listen to the theory side of each lesson with the tattoo machine in your hand.
3. Reading
Reading as a learning style for any visual skill is always going to be a challenge, my lessons don’t currently cater specifically to those with this learning style yet. I do have a book coming out very soon with all of the first 30 lessons in written form as a trial. If it is successful I’ll roll out the entire course as a written guide Click here to be the first to hear when my book is released
Having a reading learning style doesn’t mean you can’t do the course though! You might just need to go through each lesson a couple of times until it’s completely sunk in.
4. Kinaesthetic (doing)
My course is all about combining theory with practical lessons, you’ll be following along all the way from simple lines right up to detailed portraits. I know sometimes it can be tempting to jump straight to the practical sections, which is why I do repeat all of the theory again as I go through each technique on the mat, but if possible – do make sure to watch the whole video! Unless you can afford all the practice mats you’re going to be burning through!
