I've been right at the bottom, struggling for each booking with moths flying out of my empty wallet. 3 years in, with mounting debt and a family to feed I decided to make a change.

Until that point I'd just been watching my competitors, trying to copy what marketing they were doing. But that wasn't enough, so I began to look elsewhere. It became an obsession, and I worked through hundreds of business books, seminars, podcasts and online courses.

I came to the conclusion that the vast majority of tattoo artists are doing things completely wrong when it comes to business.

Starting to apply my new-found knowledge, it felt like a secret key to success. In less than a year I'd gone from a couple of tattoos each week to being fully booked for months in advance. From scraping by day to day to earning hundreds of thousands each year.

There's a big problem in the tattoo industry: no-one is teaching artists how to run their businesses properly. It's all guesswork and snooping on competitors to see how they're doing things. Artists with a bit of luck behind them are the ones who make it.
